Conrad Byars
I have been teaching Algebra I in the Anaheim Union High School District for 26 years. I started teaching at Anaheim High School as the Head Varsity Basketball Coach and a Algebra I math teacher. I moved to Western High School in the same capacity after ten years at Anaheim High School. I am completing my 16th year at Western High School. I was the Head Varsity Basketball Coach at Western for four years and then moved on to coach for five years as the assistant coach at Santa Ana College. The last few years I have concentrated my efforts on improving the math department at Western High School as the department chairperson. In my spare time I enjoy working out by playing basketball, racquet ball, and running. I also enjoy painting, scultpting and reading poetry. I also enjoy attending Major League Baseball games, especially the Anaheim Angels. One of the many things I have recently become interested in is the adaptations of organisms to the environment. This past summer I spent many days watching the cuttlefish change color which enables them to blend into different backgrounds to elude other fish. (see picture) Many individuals have asked to see one of my sculptures; I have included a picture of "Smiling Worm" that I recently sold at one of my art exhibits.
