Social Science
The History/Social Science Curriculum is aligned with the AUHSD History/Social Science Content and Performance Standards. As educators we have the responsibility of preparing our students for the challenges of living in a fast-changing society. Their lives will be affected by domestic and international politics, economic flux, technological developments, demographic shifts, and the stress of social change. The goals of the Social Science department is not only to teach students the history of our nation and the world, but to help them appreciate the impact the past has on their present and future. The History/Social Science curriculum includes various instructional materials including primary and secondary documents, literary works, creative arts and music. The development of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills are emphasized.
If your student is interested in history, Western established a history club last year. They meet regularly and plan numerous activities including, guest speakers, field trips, debates and other history related events/activities.
